The product that has given the world its best-known taste
was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 8, 1886. Dr. John
Stith Pemberton, a local pharmacist, produced the syrup
for Coca-Cola®, and carried a jug of the new product
down the street to Jacobs' Pharmacy, where it was
sampled, pronounced "excellent" and placed on sale for
five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink. Now
According to the 2005 Annual Report, the company sells
beverage products in more than 200 countries. The
report further states that of the more than 50 billion
beverage servings of all types consumed worldwide
every day, beverages bearing the trademarks owned by
or licensed to Coca-Cola account for approximately 1.5
billion (the latest figure in 2010 shows that now they
serve 1.6 billion drinks everyday). Of these, beverages
bearing the trademark "Coca-Cola" or "Coke"
accounted for approximately 78% of the Company's total
